Composite Repair

Aerospace and industrial composite structure repair, inspection and competency-based TVET training

Overview

Composite repair restores the strength and airworthiness of damaged fibre-reinforced structures. It demands accurate damage assessment, disciplined process control and rigorous inspection — skills taught here through competency-based TVET training.

Training draws on Airbus repair methodology, JPK national competency standards and applied aerospace projects, giving trainees practical workshop experience alongside the underlying materials science.

Scope of Training

Damage Assessment

Classifying damage type and depth, mapping affected plies, and deciding between cosmetic, structural and non-repairable outcomes.

Surface Preparation

Ply removal, scarf and step sanding, contamination control and correct surface activation before bonding.

Repair Lay-Up

Patch design, ply orientation and stacking sequence, wet lay-up and pre-preg repair application.

Vacuum Bagging & Cure

Bagging schedules, breather and bleeder arrangement, leak checking, and heat-blanket or oven cure cycles.

Inspection

Visual inspection, tap testing and non-destructive evaluation to confirm bond quality and detect voids or disbonds.

Documentation

Repair records, process traceability and reporting aligned with quality and airworthiness requirements.
